INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Introduction

Indian Head Massage is a safe, simple but very effective therapy which has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. It was at first practiced by women who used to massage their heads using vegetable oil which kept their long hair healthy and strong. This is in fact true as by massaging the scalp stimulates the blood flow to the follicles, improving the nutrients needed for healthy hair growth.
Today Indian Head Massage is not just confined to the head area, it has been developed to include other parts of the body which are vulnerable to stress such as the neck, upper arms shoulders and the upper back.
Indian Head Massage is today one of the fastest growing holistic therapies and is also great for massage sessions at your place of work as the client can remain fully clothed.

How it works

The head, neck and back are important energy centres within the body. If you are at work, at home or even out and about any stress, anger or tension quite often accumulates. The tension builds up and final materialises as a stiff neck and shoulders, eye strain and sometimes even hair loss. What Indian Head Massage does is by massaging with a firm and gentle rhythm, one can unknot and release blockages and relieve the uncomfortable build up of tension and stress. Indian Head Massage not only works on a physical level; it also works on an emotional one too by calming the spirit, bring relaxation and thus relieving stress.
There is an ancient proverb that states: ‘A happy mind is medicine, no better prescription exists’.

Indian Head Massage treats the body as a whole - mind (psychological), Body (physical) and spirit (spiritual). That is why it is known as ‘Holistic Therapy’

Lifestyles

Due to the busy/hectic/stressful lifestyles that we lead, our bodies can suffer ill health as a result. We require good health to maintain balance, equilibrium and natural functioning of our bodily systems. Too much stress disrupts the balance of the body causing energy pathways to become congested, disabling the energy (chi/prana) to travel freely throughout our bodies. Common symptoms of continual and prolonged stress include fatigue, headache, heartburn, indigestion, hair loss, depression and loss of libido. More serious conditions include acidosis, backache. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Cohn’s disease, pancreatic and kidney disease and can even lead to heart attacks.

Here listed are a few physical symptoms that can act as warning signs:

• Shallow and Fast breathing
• High blood pressure / Palpitations
• Excess sweating
• Muscular tension
• Dilated pupils
• Loss of appetite
• Irregular menstruation
• Impotence
• Low sex drive

• Ulcers
• Constipation
• Diarrhoea
• Hair loss
• Constant tiredness
• PMT
• Disturbed sleep pattern
• Poor skin
• Poor hair condition
